## Description

- EN: Updating a model after single samples or small chunks of a stream, with predict-then-learn evaluation and reaction to concept drift.

## In one sentence

- EN: A model learns a little from each new observation instead of retraining from scratch on everything.

## Problem it solves

- EN: Data flows nonstop and changes fast, while retraining on the whole history takes too long.

## What it does

- EN: Like a driver who corrects course after every bend instead of replanning the whole journey.

## Everyday example

- EN: A junk-mail filter improves after every message you mark as spam, without waiting for an overnight retrain.

## This concerns you if you…

- PL: dane spływają ciągle, a nie paczkami
- PL: wzorce w twoich danych szybko się zmieniają
- PL: nie masz miejsca, by trzymać całą historię
- EN: data arrives continuously, not in batches
- EN: patterns in your data change quickly
- EN: lack the storage to keep the full history

## How it works

- PL: Model przetwarza sekwencję: przewiduje dla nowej próbki, poznaje prawdziwy wynik i od razu aktualizuje parametry, np. spadkiem gradientu po jednej próbce albo rosnącym drzewem Hoeffdinga. Ocena prequential sprawdza każdą próbkę przed nauką na niej, a detektory dryfu wymieniają przestarzałe części modelu.
- EN: The model processes a sequence: it predicts for a new sample, receives the true outcome and updates at once, e.g. with single-sample gradient steps or a growing Hoeffding tree. Prequential evaluation tests each sample before learning from it, and drift detectors replace outdated parts of the model.

## Limits

- PL: Kolejność i szum danych wpływają na model bardziej niż w treningu wsadowym. Etykiety często przychodzą z opóźnieniem. Szybka adaptacja grozi zapominaniem starszych wzorców, a wolna nieaktualnością.
- EN: Data order and noise affect the model more than in batch training. Labels often arrive late. Fast adaptation risks forgetting older patterns, slow adaptation risks staleness.

## Key terms

- PL: **dryf pojęć**: Zmiana w czasie zależności między danymi a wynikiem.
- PL: **ocena prequential**: Każda próbka najpierw służy do testu, dopiero potem do nauki.
- EN: **concept drift**: A change over time in how inputs relate to outcomes.
- EN: **prequential evaluation**: Each sample is used for testing first, then for learning.
- EN: **Hoeffding tree**: A decision tree that grows incrementally once the data is statistically sufficient.
